One false belief can negate a hundred true doctrines. Traditions of men, make the Word have no effect, Jesus said this in Mark 7:13 Knowledge without transformation is just noise.
E.W. Kenyon wrote, paraphrasing, The greatest hindrance to spiritual growth is not ignorance of true, but belief in lies.
We need to unlearn these:
1. Unlearn the lie that, You are sinner saved by grace. You are NOW a creation!
2. Unlearn the lie that, God is angry with you when you fail. Romans 8:1
3. Unlearn the lie that your feelings determine your spiritual state. Feelings can lie.
4. Unlearn the lie that you have to earn God’s blessing.
5. Unlearn the lie that spiritual growth is your responsibility to produce. Philippians 2:13, says it is God who worketh in you.
6. Unlearn the lie that you need more of God. Colossians 2:10 says your are complete in Him.
7. Unlearn the lie that tithing is required under the new covenant. Grace operates on voluntary giving, according to II Corinthians 9:7
8. Unlearn the lie that God tests you with trials. James 1:13 says, let no man say he is tempted of God.
9. Unlearn the lie that some sins are worse than others. Colossians 2:13 says, ALL sin is forgiven through Christ’s blood.
10. Unlearn the lie that spiritual maturity means never struggling.
Now, here’s how you can unlearn things practically.
1. Test everything you believe against scripture.
2. Pay attention to the fruit of your beliefs.
a. If a belief produces fear, it’s likely false.
b. If a belief produces condemnation, it contradicts Romans 8:1
c. If a belief produces striving, it contradicts rest.
d. If a belief produces doubt, it contradicts faith.
3. Recognize that unlearning is a process.
4. Be patient with yourself, unlearning takes time.
When you commit to unlearning, transformation accelerates. You are removing what’s blocking growth. when blocks are removed, growth happens naturally.
