Ephesians 2:4 “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us.”
“But God” is a powerful statement….when it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, you can declare, “But God”.
The word rich in this verse in Greek is Plusios, meaning filty rich. Pluto was the god of wealth in Greek mythology, we get the English word “plutocrat”.
Someone who is so rich that he has influence over other people.
We can probably think of a few people in our day that are that rich, and then there is the love of money. People will do just about anything when money is involved.
But it says God is so rich in mercy, that He uses this to influence us and win us over. God is really, really, really rich in mercy. Mercy is grace in action. When grace is displayed toward man, it’s called mercy. Mercy brings God’s grace to lost mankind.
God has given to each of His children the measure of faith. Faith is the means of receiving God’s grace, but it does no good until it is put into action. When faith is put into action, it is called believing.
Mercy is God reaching out to man, and believing is man reaching out to God.
The book of Ephesians by Bob Yandian is a great book to study.
I’m glad God is a Plutocrat using His great love to win us over!
